After a decade of being operated solely as a private farm, a decision was made to take Golden Grove in an entirely new direction & in 2019, Golden Grove opened the gates and began operating as a commercial entity.

Golden Grove is located, just 3 hours from Sydney and centrally located within 40 minutes of all the major stallion farms in the Hunter Valley. Providing permanent and seasonal agistment, spelling, foaling, education, walk outs & sales preparations to all major sales.

Golden Grove is a 260-acre thoroughbred facility specialising in all areas of equine care, with another 100-acres just 4km away. With both farms having undergone significant pasture improvements, since heading in this new direction.

Golden Grove is responsible for having produced the 2019-20 Racehorse of The Year & multiple Group 1 winning Nature Strip (Nicconi), as well as stakes performers Li’l Kontra (Krupt), Flying Award (Shamus Award) & The Barrister (Star Witness).

Over the past few seasons, under the direct guidance of Dr Sam Nugent, one of the leading reproductive vets in the Hunter Valley, we have been able to achieve an impressive fertility strike rate. We have also been able to bring in the expertise of leading surgeon, Dr Troy Butt to carry out all conformation assessments.

At Golden Grove, we take great pride in the education of our young horses & it is for this reason, once our foals are weaned, they are on a constant cycle through the stables, which we believe helps with their development.

Our sales preparation is not a one-size-fits-all program, our feeding and exercise regime are assessed weekly, this allows our yearlings to be at their peak, come sale day. Since heading in the new direction in 2019, we have had some great results in the sales ring. Golden Grove have sold yearlings by Shamus Award, for up to 8x his service fee in recent years. Golden Grove came out on top for averages, for 3 or more lots sold at the 2020 Adelaide Magic Millions. At the recent HTBA Yearling Sale we sold an outstanding Outreach colt for 67k, a massive 8x his service fee. It is successes like these, that continue to be the drive behind our systems & we will be looking to build on this in the coming years.
